Jack A Somers
Jack A. Somers, 97, of Watchung died Oct. 22, 2010. He was a lifelong resident of New York City.
Mr. Somers retired in 1978 after 40 years of teaching social studies and economics at the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan. For more than 20 years he was the teacher-in-charge of Wadleigh Evening High School in Harlem.
He graduated from City College of New York in 1934 and earned a master of science in education in 1936.
He served in the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II.
Predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Helen R., in February, he is survived by his son, Howard of Coronado, Calif.; his daughter, Maura Somers Dughi of Watchung; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 24 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
