Jay Sher
Jay Allan Sher, 61, of Ocean Township died Jan. 23, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn.
Dr. Sher was a physician and director of Endocrine & Metabolism at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Prior to starting his career in New Jersey, he served as director of the Division of Endocrinology and president of the Medical Staff at Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn. He became the director of Diabetes Care at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and was associate program director of the Department of Medicine; chaired the Pharmacy and Therapeutics, the Drug Utilization, and the Meridian Health Formulary committees; and served on the Information Technology Steering and Clinical Excellence committees. In recognition of his contributions to JSUMC, he was honored with the 2014 Department of Medicine Lifetime Achievement Award. The Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, he was also the JSUMC site program director for the Endocrinology Fellowship Program based there.
He graduated from Highland Park High School and University of Pittsburgh. He attended the Medical School at the State University of New York at Brooklyn and completed his residency in internal medicine at Nassau County Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in endocrinology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three daughters, Heather (Herman), Erin (Kristofor), and Samantha; his son, Alex; and two granddaughters.
Services were held Jan. 26 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center.
