‘Jewish-style’ Judaism at URJ
It was thrilling to see your front-page report of 6,000 enthusiastic participants at the Union of Reform Judaism biennial (“In flexing muscle, URJ broadens Israel critique,” Dec. 14).
My mood quickly changed when reading that Rabbi Rick Jacobs rejected Israel as the center of world Judaism. When the informative article pointed out that the food was “kosher-style,” it became clear that we are moving backwards into “Jewish-style” Judaism. This was particularly ironic and disturbing as we were celebrating the Maccabee victory over the Greeks and their Hellenized Jewish allies.
