New officers and continuing board members were installed, volunteers of the year were honored, and donors to the new JFS Charlotte Shak Food Pantry Storage Building were acknowledged during the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey’s recent annual meeting.
The new executive committee, under the leadership of President Ruth B. Margolin, include First Vice President Jennifer Marshall Sofield, Vice President Arielle Traub, Treasurer Mark Hauptman, and Secretary Donald Shapiro.
Ruth B. Margolin retired from a long career as an administrator in formal and informal Jewish education. She graduated with honors from Brown University, earned master’s degrees from the Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia University, worked for Hillel at the University of Michigan, was a national director of the Reform Jewish Youth Movement, ran a synagogue high school in Marlboro, and was the assistant director of an experimental Jewish high school in East Brunswick. In addition to her involvement with Jewish Family Service, Ms. Margolin serves on the boards and has held leadership positions in Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest, and Women’s Philanthropy of Jewish Federation. She has been on the Jewish Family Service board since 2007.
She also constructs a monthly crossword puzzle for the local Westfield Leader newspaper, and her puzzles occasionally also appear in national publications, including the New York Times.
She lives in Westfield with her husband, Michael, a gastroenterologist in Cranford. They have three adult children, Nathan, Ezra, and Hannah.
