JHS Veterans Day program

Carol Simon Levin tells the story of the World War II Women Airforce Service — also known as the WASPS — for a Veterans Day program hosted by the Jewish Historical Society of Greater MetroWest NJ. It’s on Tuesday, November 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.; location will be given at registration.

Ms. Levin is a professional storyteller and independent historian. The course will be a journey through the life and legacy of Ann G. Baumgartner, who learned to fly at Somerset Hills Airport in Basking Ridge in 1940 and became the first American woman to pilot a United States Army Air Forces jet aircraft.

In addition, the extraordinary contributions of Jewish women from Greater MetroWest who served in the military will be celebrated. Kosher light bites and refreshments will be served.

The JHS committee, chaired by Mark Polson, includes Ruth Brewster, Risa Perlmutter Goldstein, Jeffrey Katz, Lisa Katz, Carol Marcus, and Robert Steinbaum. For information and to register, go to www.jfedgmw.org, click on events, and then on JHS Veterans Day Program.
