JMLs approach milestones

Jason Marquis enters the season with 104 wins, fourth on the all-time list. He should have no trouble passing Steve Stone (107), but Sandy Koufax’s 165 might be out of reach for the injury prone 33-year-old. Ken Holtzman holds the record with 174.

Marquis would also need 92 strikeouts to move past Stone’s 1,065 and into third place.

Craig Breslow is third on the earned run average list but it might be a stretch to pass Erskine Mayer’s 2.96, given that Breslow rarely pitches more than an inning per appearance.

Kevin Youkilis (ninth place) needs 73 hits to reach 1,000; Ryan Braun needs 102. Both are very doable. Al Rosen is in eighth place on the JML hit list with 1,063, which is within reach for both players in 2012.

Braun could also move past Hank Greenberg to take over the number one spot in batting average; Greenberg stands at .313, Braun at .312. Youkilis is eighth on the list with .289.

Braun has averaged 36 home runs for his career. If he can do that again, he’ll have 197 and pass Al Rosen’s 192 to move into fourth place. Youkilis has 129 (eighth place) and Ian Kinsler has 124 (ninth). Greenberg’s 331 paces the field.

Youkilis is in ninth place with 550 runs batted in; Braun is in tenth place with 531. They both could pass Brad Ausmus (605) and Mike Lieberthal (610) with an average season of run production.
