Joseph Tatcher Harris
Joseph Tatcher Harris, 80, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Feb. 11, 2011. He was born in Philadelphia, grew up in New York City, and also lived in Quogue, NY.
Dr. Harris spent his entire professional career in the private practice of urology, based initially in Perth Amboy and later expanding to Edison. He also served as chief of surgery at John F. Kennedy Hospital and chief of urology at Perth Amboy General Hospital.
He attended Bronx High School of Science and was awarded a basketball scholarship to Rutgers College, graduating in 1952. He then attended The Chicago Medical School, receiving his MD degree in 1956. He completed an internship at Kings County Hospital and pursued specialty training in urology at the East Orange VA Hospital.
He was a captain in the United States Army.
He was a booster and benefactor of Rutgers University.
He is survived by his son, Arthur; three daughters, Abby, Pamela Lecher, and Julie Harris-Scherzer; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 14 with arrangements by Flynn & Son Funeral Home, Metuchen.
