Joshua Robert Esformes
Joshua Robert Esformes, 23, of South Orange died Dec. 19, 2010.
Mr. Esformes played for the New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey program for 13 years and at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, where he served as assistant captain, graduated with honors, and was a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to play for the Rutgers University D1 club hockey team, where he was named to the ACHA All Star team in 2008, Most-Valuable-Player, and an Academic All-American.
He graduated from Rutgers in 2010 with degrees in economics and philosophy.
He continued to pursue his dream of playing professional hockey by playing internationally as well as coaching the Protec Ducks hockey club. He also traveled to Europe, Japan, and Israel over the past five years.
He is survived by his mother, Susan; father, Steven; brother, Jake; aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
Services were held at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange, on Dec. 22, with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Hockey in Newark (www.hockeyinnewark.com).
