JVS aiding students through loans, grants
The Scholarship Loan Program of Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest NJ gave 41 students scholarship loans totaling $131,000 for the 2013-14 school year.
In addition, JVS offered five students Shapiro Scholarship Foundation Grants, given through the estate of Belle Shapiro to assist students pursuing studies in the fields of medicine, medical science, nursing, or Jewish theology. In 2013, $30,000 was allocated among four medical students and one nursing student.
JVS is a beneficiary agency of Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ.
Ben Perlmutter, JVS scholarship loan program cochair, said, “I am proud of the distinguished list of funds and grateful for the generosity of the donors. The program is more important than ever in fulfilling a critical need for Jewish students who have exhausted available forms of financial aid, family resources, and personal savings.”
