Laurence Goodman
Laurence R. Goodman, 90, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Feb. 13, 2013. Born in Bayonne, he had resided in Springfield for nearly 50 years before moving to Virginia Beach seven years ago. He also had resided for a time in Monroe Township.
Mr. Goodman joined the third generation of Goodmans in the family furniture business in Jersey City and managed their North Bergen store from its opening in the 1960s. He was an officer of the Furniture Association of New Jersey.
He was a star high school basketball player before attending the University of Wisconsin and Rutgers University.
He served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
He served as president of Twin Brooks Golf Club in Watchung.
He is survived by his wife, Iris (Berman); two daughters, Jerilyn Goodman of Wisconsin and Rebecca Epstein (Ron Stone) of Fort Lee; his son, Jeffrey (Jeannie) of Virginia; two brothers, Joel and Melvin; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were held Feb. 17 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
