Lawrence Max

Lawrence “Sonny” Max, 91, of Monroe Township died Nov. 26, 2012. Born in Newark, he lived in Springfield for almost 25 years before moving to Monroe in 1974.

Mr. Max joined his father in the family wholesale meat business, Nathan Max and Son.

He was a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

During World War II he served as a lieutenant commander and captained a minesweeper in the South Pacific.

Upon retirement he enjoyed volunteering his time for over 20 years at Princeton Medical Center, where he delivered mail to patients and staff. He was a founding member of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael of Springfield. He was also active in his Clearbrook community, where he served as Section 2 President for many years.

Predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Gladys, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth of Potomac, Md., and Stephen of Springfield; a brother, Sanford of Durango, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 29 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Medical Center Foundation.
