Lawrence Stern

Lawrence H. Stern, 93, of Deal died Oct. 21, 2013. He was born in Asbury Park and was a lifelong shore resident.

Mr. Stern worked for Rudolph/Cinnamin/Calafredo before founding Sterns Transport Inc. in Wall Township. He was president there until his retirement.

He graduated from New York University with a degree in accounting.

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was president of B’nai B’rith and the Woodlake and Hollywood golf clubs. He served as president of the New Jersey Motor Truck Association, which honored him as “Man of The Year.” As state vice president to the American Trucking Association, he was appointed to the Surface Transportation Committee by President James Carter.

He was a member of Congregation Torat El and the Elberon Bath Club.

Predeceased by his wife, Rosalind, he is survived by two sons, Andrew and Fred (Robin), both of Wayside; four grandchildren, a great-grandson; and his companion, Kathryn Gross of Wayside.

Services were held Oct. 24 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean.
