Leonard Kurland, 93, of Lake Worth, Fla., died Sept. 7, 2019. Born in Newark, he lived in West Orange for 50 years before moving to Lake Worth.
Mr. Kurland was cofounder of Handy Store Fixtures, where he served as president from 1952 until his retirement in 1989.
For many years he was an active volunteer leader of the Boy Scouts. After his retirement he spent time collecting antique phonographs and painting. He volunteered his time teaching oil painting at JCC MetroWest in West Orange and was active in the Essex County Arts Council.
Predeceased by his wife, Rina; his daughter, Cindy Kurland Elgart; and a son, Marc, he is survived by a son, Paul (Nancy); 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 11 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to B’nai Shalom in West Orange or Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
