Lillian Grundfest

Lillian Okun Grundfest, 103, of Verona died Aug. 25, 2017. She lived in Kearny and West Orange before moving to Verona in 1979. 

Mrs. Grundfest had various volunteer roles, first in Kearny as the chair of the Girl Scout cookie sale drive. After moving to West Orange, she volunteered at the League of Women Voters and Municipal Rent Board.

She attended Newark Normal School before leaving college during the Depression to work for the ILGWU and later for the Army Corps of Engineers. She later returned to college and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers University. She also received an M.A. in history from Montclair State University. 

Predeceased by her husband, Philip, in 1985; a granddaughter, Stefanie Grundfest; and a son-in-law, Larry Mandelbaum, she is survived by four daughters, Ellen (Martin) Sampson, Andrea Grundfest, Karen Mandelbaum, and Judith (Joel) Darr; two sisters, Dorothy Harritt and Alice Falchook; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Services were held Aug. 27 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood.
