Lowering the bar

Andrew Silow-Carroll lowered the bar for what it means to be a Zionist — that is, it’s OK to be pro-Palestinian — in order to call Bernie Sanders a Zionist (“Bernie Sanders speaks Zionism to Progressives,” Nov. 14).

Silow-Carroll went a step farther by actually lowering the bar for what it means to be Jewish — one doesn’t need to support Israel nor practice Judaism — in order to justify that “Uncle Bernie” is “unmistakably Jewish” (Jew vs. Jew: Is America ready for Bloomberg or Sanders?” Nov. 28). The bagels-and-lox, pro-Palestinian Sanders is a self-hating caricature of a Jew, and in his own way, as Jewish as are Jews for Jesus.
