Lucy Broomall

Lucy A. Broomall (Allen), 79, of West Orange died Jan. 28, 2020. She was a Livingston native.

An accomplished pianist, Mrs. Broomall taught piano lessons during a career spanning more than 50 years. For over 20 years, she also played the piano and pipe organ at many local churches.

She attended Syracuse University as a music major on a full scholarship, which she earned by performing a technically difficult Rachmaninoff sonata.

She was a member of the Chamber Music Club. She enjoyed participating in book clubs and athletic activities, including swimming, tennis, and ice skating.

In recent years, she accompanied a singer in performing music programs for residents at local nursing homes. She also had a fondness for animals.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bob; two daughters, Lesley (Manny) and Alison (Matt); a brother, Jeffrey Allen; a sister, Amy Karr; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 31 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy.
