Marion Landew of Fanwood died Nov. 20, 2019. She lived in Westfield for over 60 years.
Mrs. Landew was the first in her family to go to college, graduating from the University of Wisconsin in Madison with a bachelor’s degree in English.
She began her career in her 50s, going back to school to earn a master’s degree at Seton Hall University once her children left home. She then began teaching, first at the New School for Social Research in New York and later at New York University (NYU). She taught at NYU for over 30 years, helping hundreds of students explore the dynamics of their own lives in her memoir writing class. Many of her students went on to become published authors.
She and her husband traveled the world well into their 80s, although their favorite place was their second home on Martha’s Vineyard, where they spent part of every summer for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Melvin; two sons, Dean (Emilie Tsai) of New York City and Roger (Tina) of Scotch Plains; her daughter, Robin (Steve Silverman) of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Services were held Nov. 22 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
