To mark Tisha B’Av, B’nai Shalom in West Orange offers “Voices of the Uyghur Genocide” on Sunday, July 18, at 6:45 p.m. The program focuses on an example of senseless hatred happening in China right now. Attorney Dena Shayne, a senior associate for human rights at the Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights, leads the hybrid program. Participants can go to the synagogue to watch the presentation together, or they can tune in from home on Zoom.
Ms. Shayne suggests that people watch the PBS Frontline documentary “China Undercover,” about the communist regime’s mass imprisonment of Muslims in the Xinjiang region, before the program. Mincha follows at 8 p.m., and Ma’ariv services and the conclusion of the fast day are at 9:04. Register at clc.BnaiShalom.net.
