Martha Fritz

Martha Goldie Fritz (Metter), 92, of West Caldwell died Jan. 30, 2013. Born in Boston, she lived in Bloomfield for 50 years before moving to West Caldwell six years ago.

Mrs. Fritz worked for Planned Parenthood and served as school nurse in Montclair for over 20 years.

She attended Boston City Hospital Nursing School and graduated from Boston University and Simmons College for Registered Nursing with a BS in nursing

She enlisted in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II, where she was stationed as a First Lieutenant in India on the Lido road from 1943 to 1945.

She was a founding member of Temple Menorah, now Temple Ner Tamid, both of Bloomfield. She was active in their sisterhood and active with seniors and Hadassah.

Predeceased in 1983 by her husband, Bernard M., whom she married in 1948, and a daughter, Sandra M. Fritz Schwiaghofer, she is survived by two daughters, Rosanne Fritz Bornstein of Verona and Susan H. Fritz of Norwood, Mass.; a sister, Freda Posnick of Long Meadow, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 1 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
