Martin Cohen
Martin Cohn, 81, of Rancho Mirage, Calif., died April 21, 2017. He was born in Newark and moved to Livingston in 1965 before relocating to Rancho Mirage after his retirement.
Mr. Cohn had a career in real estate, first as a broker with Archie Schwartz Co. and then as an executive with Vornado Realty Trust.
He was a graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood and Ohio University.
He was a lieutenant in the Air Force stationed in Japan, where he headed a mobile air traffic control unit, enabling him to travel to many countries in the Far East.
He was president of NAIOP, where he was honored with a lifetime achievement award, and of Maplewood Country Club. He was also a member of NACORE.
A sports enthusiast, he was a pitcher for his team in the Livingston Men’s Softball League.
In Rancho Mirage, he was active in many organizations, serving on the board of Jewish National Fund, as president of AIPAC and his Homeowners Association, and as a volunteer with USO. He enjoyed weekly participation in a discussion group on domestic and foreign affairs.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; his son, Peter (Judy); his daughter, Debbie (Jim); a brother, Ted; and five grandchildren.
Services were held April 26 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish National Fund or Wounded Warriors.
