Max Dukas

Max Dukas, 89, of Delray Beach, Fla., died May 20, 2011. Born in Germany, he was a Holocaust survivor who spent the war years in France, where he played professional soccer, which helped conceal his Jewish identity. In 1949, he met Bernadette Alland, a survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, and they immigrated to the United States. They married in New York in 1952 and settled in Teaneck in 1968.

Mr. Dukas and his wife founded Bernadette Designs, a bridal-wear manufacturer in New York.

He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Sholom, Teaneck.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Deborah Lesser of West Orange; his son, Richard of Teaneck; his sister, Berthe Bloch of Paris; and five grandchildren.

Services were held May 22 with arrangements by Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, Hackensack.
