Max Insel Cohen, 85, of Livingston died Nov. 23, 2019. He was born in Newark.
Mr. Cohen entered the family business, Insel & Insel in Newark, and then as an entrepreneur, established Max Insel Cohen, Inc., Animal Organs and Tissues for Research, serving all the major medical schools and research institutions throughout the greater metropolitan area.
He graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy, Pine Beach, and from Rider College in Trenton.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleonore Kessler Cohen; his son, Philip H. Cohen (Rebecca Kramnick); his daughter, Cynthia L. Cohen (Carl Goldberg); and two granddaughters.
He belonged to the Garden State Yacht Club and Maplewood Country Club and was a lifelong member of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, Short Hills. He enjoyed sailing “Relax Max” on Lake Hopatcong.
Services were held Nov. 26 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to The Newark Museum of Art or Congregation B’nai Jeshurun.
