Mayor Michael Pagan — a pillar of leadership in Teaneck

In today’s polarized climate, finding a leader who stands firm for what’s right, even under unfair criticism, is rare. Teaneck’s Mayor Michael Pagan has proven himself to be that leader, standing with the Jewish community and combatting antisemitism with unwavering resolve. His re-election is not just a personal victory; it’s a testament to the trust, respect, and gratitude the people of Teaneck feel for him. Despite facing criticism and even attacks from those questioning if he has done “enough,” the community recognized that Mayor Pagan has done more than enough. He deserved every vote he received, and thousands more.

Mayor Pagan has earned his reputation as a true ally to the Jewish community, showing up time and again with actions that speak louder than any words. His dedication to standing up against hate in Teaneck and supporting those targeted by antisemitism has been unwavering.

He has made it clear that Teaneck is a place where bigotry and intolerance will not be tolerated, and he has worked tirelessly to ensure that all residents feel safe and respected. Mayor Pagan’s proactive approach has set him apart as a leader who values action over rhetoric.

After the horrific October 7 attacks in Israel, while some wavered or remained silent, Michael Pagan traveled to Israel on the Mayors Solidarity Mission organized by the Combat Antisemitism Movement.

This was no symbolic gesture. By witnessing the devastation firsthand, meeting survivors, and experiencing the pain and resilience of Israel’s people, Mayor Pagan proved that he isn’t just a passive supporter. He is an active ally who goes above and beyond to show solidarity in the most meaningful ways.

While he could have taken the safer path of neutrality, Mayor Pagan made a conscious choice to stand firmly with the Jewish community. He didn’t do it for recognition; he did it because he knew it was the right thing to do. He proved we really are stronger together.

Mayor Pagan’s reflections from the trip, seeing “Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and Bedouins living side by side,” underscored his commitment to truth and his rejection of the divisive narratives spread by those who seek to divide us. His leadership in this moment demonstrated the kind of courage and moral clarity that resonates deeply with those who value integrity over convenience.

Back in Teaneck, Mayor Pagan has faced the kind of criticism and questioning that often meets those who take bold stands. Some have unjustly questioned if he has done enough for the Jewish community, questioning his allyship. But the truth is that Mayor Pagan has not only done enough, he has gone above and beyond.

In moments when antisemitism reared its ugly head in our town, Michael Pagan spoke out loudly and clearly. He condemned the hateful slogans shouted at protests, including “from the river to the sea” and calls for “intifada revolution.” He made it clear that targeting Teaneck’s Jewish residents for the policies of a foreign government is antisemitism, plain and simple.

Working closely with local law enforcement, the ADL, and community safety groups, Mayor Pagan has taken proactive steps to keep Teaneck safe. His commitment to protecting residents and standing against hate has been a lifeline for many in the community.

These actions highlight his belief that true leadership requires standing up for vulnerable groups and working diligently to ensure their safety. His leadership has left an indelible mark on our town and serves as a model for how elected officials can protect and unify diverse communities.

Michael Pagan’s re-election is a testament to the people’s trust and gratitude for his integrity, his courage, and his unyielding dedication. Teaneck’s residents have seen his commitment to truth and justice in action, and they have given him the mandate to continue his work.

His critics may question his contributions, but the voters of Teaneck recognize the truth: Mayor Pagan has more than earned their respect and every vote he received. His re-election affirms that the community values his principled stance and views him as an unwavering ally.

I want to extend my personal gratitude to Mayor Michael Pagan for his courage, his empathy, and his steadfast commitment to our community. At a time when division is easy and silence is safe, he chose to stand up and speak out.

Michael Pagan has set a high standard for what it means to lead with integrity and compassion, and Teaneck is a stronger, safer place because of him.

Leadership is not about popularity or playing it safe; it’s about doing what is right, even when it’s hard. Mayor Michael Pagan’s re-election is a victory for Teaneck’s values and a reminder that allyship is recognized, appreciated, and rewarded by those who see the difference it makes.

Thank you, Mayor Pagan, for standing with the Jewish community, for your unwavering commitment to truth, and for showing us all what real leadership looks like. Your actions speak for themselves, and the people of Teaneck stand with you, just as you have stood with us.
