Melvin Schott
Melvin Schott, 94, of Highland Beach, Fla., formerly of Brooklyn and Millburn, died Aug. 14, 2019.
From 1948 to 1994, Mr. Schott worked alongside his father, children, and grandchildren at Schott NYC, creating American-made outerwear.
He earned a degree from New York University.
During World War II he enlisted in the U.S. military, where he received a Purple Heart Medal from the Marine Corps when wounded in the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.
His passions included competitive sailing, motorcycle riding, and piloting airplanes.
He was a member of Congregation B’nai Israel of Millburn since 1955.
Predeceased by his son, Michael, he is survived by his wife, Leila Schott; two daughters, Roslyn Schott (Stanley Geller) and Barbara (Steven) Colin; his former wife, Susan Schott; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 18 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
