Melvin Wallerstein
Melvin J. Wallerstein, 94, of West Orange died April 16, 2016. Born in Newark, he was a lifelong New Jersey resident.
Mr. Wallerstein practiced law into his late 80s. For many years he chaired the Tax Section of the New Jersey Bar Association.
He graduated from New York University and Rutgers Law School.
He was president of the Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement. He served as the longtime chair of the Planning Board for the Township of West Orange and was vice president of the board of trustees of Daughters of Israel.
Predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Rita, he is survived by his son, Mitchel B. (Susan Perlik) of New York; two daughters, Lesley W. (William) Bunn of Cincinnati and Debra W. (Ned) Williams of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 1 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
