Michael Cohen

Michael H. Cohen of Flanders died July 23, 2016. He was born in New York City in 1960. 

Mr. Cohen taught special education in the Syracuse public school system before going on to practice insurance law and litigation. He started his law career as an attorney at Morgan, Melhuish, Monaghan, Ardvison, Abrutyn and Lisoswski. During his nearly-30-year legal career, he also practiced at Schwartz, Simon, Edelstein, Celso and Kessler and was a member of Saiber LLC for the last seven years. He also mentored young lawyers.

He was a 1983 graduate of the Syracuse University School of Education and received his JD from Seton Hall Law School in 1988. 

A lifelong guitar player, he wrote a number of original songs, and played in local cover bands throughout his adult life. He also enjoyed coaching softball and basketball. 

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; two daughters, Allison and Deanna; and a brother, Phil. 

Services were held July 25 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Dover. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship to benefit music and arts students from Mount Olive High School; send donations made payable to “Saiber LLC attorney trust account for The Michael H. Cohen Scholarship Fund” to Michael H. Cohen Scholarship Fund, c/o Saiber LLC, 18 Columbia Turnpike, Florham Park, NJ 07932, attn: William Maderer, Esq. Donations may also be made to American Cancer Society or Mount Olive Public Library.
