Michelle Sion (Posnock), 56, a longtime Springfield resident, died Jan. 9, 2020. She was born in Newark and lived in New York City before raising her family in Springfield.
Mrs. Sion was an aquatics instructor for children at the JCC of Central New Jersey in Scotch Plains.
She attended the University of Colorado, where she had the opportunity to participate in Semester at Sea.
After being diagnosed with leukemia, she received a stem cell donation from 23-year-old Noah Starr in December 2017. After meeting Starr in February 2019 at a young professionals event in Manhattan sponsored by the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, she told NJJN, “He was a stranger; now we are connected. There’s no question about it. He saved my life and I’d do anything for this guy now.”
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Koresh; her children, Eric and Talia; her parents, Leonard and Freida Posnock; and her brother, Stuart Posnock.
Services were held Jan. 12 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Gift of Life Bone Marrow Registry (giftoflife.org).
