Mikel Stettner
Mikel Erwin Stettner, 93, of Livingston died June 26, 2012. He was born in Romania and immigrated to the United States at the age of 10, arriving at Ellis Island just as fireworks were set off over the Statue of Liberty on July 4, 1928. He was a longtime West Orange resident.
A well-known artist and painter, Mr. Stettner first worked creating sets for the theater, eventually becoming an accomplished architectural designer. He had a business, Mikel Stettner Studios in Verona, and also taught at the Montclair Museum of Art. His paintings are in many collections in the United States and Europe.
He served in World War II as a first sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers. He saw service in both the European and Pacific fronts and was en route to Japan when the war ended.
He is survived by two sons, Robert of New York City and Donald of Blairstown; a stepdaughter, Samantha Fahrenkopf of Silver Spring, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Funeraria San Camilo, Newark.
