Mildred Gelbach

Mildred “Millie” Gelbach, 92, a longtime New Jersey resident, died March 5, 2015. Born in Newark, she moved from Irvington to Livingston in 1952 and then to Cranbury in 1984.

Mrs. Gelbach began her career as a kindergarten teacher in the 1940s. She spent over 25 years helping her husband, Harry, run their Newark-based family business, Ace Brake Exchange. 

She and Harry were very active in New Jersey Motor Truck Association during the 1960s and 1970s. She was active in establishing Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, and held numerous positions in organizations such as B’nai B’rith. She was an active member of NJMTA and worked for Deborah Hospital Association.

She is survived by two daughters, Jill Gelbach (partner John Backe) and Bonnie (Steven) Toriello, both of New York City; and a sister, Etta Kanter of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Services were held March 9 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Amsterdam Nursing Home, 1060 Amsterdam Ave., New York, NY 10025.
