Monica Reiss

Monica Reiss of Fanwood died Nov. 2, 2011. Born in New York City, she lived in Westfield for many years growing up and then in New York City before moving to Fanwood 25 years ago.

Ms. Reiss was the director of corporate and foundation giving for “Autism Speaks,” a charity based in New York City. She was responsible for writing grant applications and for the charity’s fund-raising efforts.

She graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, with a BA in American studies and a doctor of public health from Columbia University, New York City.

She was a member of the sisterhood and Israel Support Committee, both of Congregation Beth Israel of Scotch Plains. She was also an avid supporter of “Autism Speaks” and efforts on behalf of children suffering from autism.

She is survived by her daughter, Aleza Zimmerman of Fanwood; her son, Caleb of Miami; her mother, Beatrice Reiss of Westfield; a brother, David Reiss of Hoboken; and two sisters, Franci Sagar and Ruth Reiss, both of New York City.

Services were held Nov. 4 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
