Morton W. Perkoff

Morton W. Perkoff, 85, of Basking Ridge died Oct. 21, 2011. He was a native of Newark.

Dr. Perkoff practiced general surgery at Overlook, St. Barnabas, and Newark Beth Israel hospitals. He also practiced at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lyons.

He graduated from Newark Academy, Yale University, and Hahnemann University Medical School. He completed a surgical residency at the Children’s Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania under C. Everett Koop.

During World War II he served in the Army, where he trained to be an engineer.

He was a founder and trustee emeritus of the National Head Injury Association (now known as the Brain Injury Association). He was also a volunteer with Neighborhood House and an adviser to the Millburn High School Future Physicians Club and was active with the Yale Club of New Jersey.

He was an avid fisherman.

Predeceased by his wife, Margaret Gettner Perkoff, he is survived by his companion, Elizabeth Van Deusen; his daughter, Susan Perkoff Bass of Washington, DC; two sons, Jeffery of Carbondale, Ill., and John of Millburn; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 23 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey.
