Nathan Schwarcz
Nathan Schwarcz, 100, of East Windsor died March 17, 2018.
Born in what is now the Czech Republic, he was a resident of North Plainfield most of his life, and retired to Jim Thorpe, Pa.
A Holocaust survivor, Mr. Schwarcz was raised and worked on a farm in his youth. His parents and six of his eight siblings were killed by the Nazis.
He met Liza, who would become his wife, at a refugee camp in Landsberg, Germany. In 1947 they came to the United States, where he worked as a barber and owned two barber shops for many years before retiring.
A self-taught man, he read extensively on many subjects and was proficient in six languages. He continued his work farming on a small scale into his late 80s.
Predeceased by his wife Liza, he is survived by his second wife, Marietta Hertz; two sons, Mark and Michael; two daughters, Faith Watov and Miriam Schwarcz; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 19 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial donations may be made to an Israeli charity of choice.
