Neil F. Katz of Laguna Beach, Calif., died Feb. 17, 2020. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1944, where he grew up and also worked, later working in Cleveland before moving to California in the 1990s.
In the 1970s, Mr. Katz began his professional career as an attorney representing private sector and public clients in a variety of issues.
He received his B.S. degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where he joined ROTC. He went on to receive a master’s in civil engineering at Clemson University and later received a law degree from Seton Hall University in 1975.
He entered the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he reached the rank of captain.
He was a longtime member of the Laguna Beach Transportation Committee.
He was a member at the Bella Collina Golf Club of San Clemente, and also helped organize annual golf trips.
He is survived by his daughter, Jaimee Katz (Brad) Sussner of Warren; a sister, Sue Katz; two grandchildren; and Helen, his companion of 20 years.
Services were held Feb. 23 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice that supports the arts in Laguna Beach or breast cancer research.
