Dr. Steven Field of Manhattan, who grew up in Union, is the new chairman and president of the West Orange-based Jewish Foundation for the Righteous. Stanlee Stahl of West Orange is JHR’s executive vice president.

Dr. Field joined the JFR’s board of directors in 2018 and served on its education committee. He has studied the role of the German medical profession during the Third Reich and the Nazis’ medical experimentation during World War II, and he has lectured on this subject since 2017. He regularly participated in the JFR’s European Seminar, Warsaw Luncheon for Holocaust Rescuers, and other programs.

Dr. Field is a clinical assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine and a physician and clinical ethics consultant at NYU Langone Health. He is also an ethics consultant for VNS Hospice of New York.

Dr. Field’s predecessors in both roles were Harvey Schulweis, who was JFR’s chairman until his death in March, and Holocaust survivor Roman Kent, who was JFR’s president until he died in 2021. They oversaw the JFR’s efforts on behalf of Righteous Gentiles and helped to pioneer its efforts in Holocaust education. Dr. Field will be the first person to hold the combined leadership role since the organization’s founding.
