New leader at Parsippany shul

Temple Beth Am, a Reform congregation in Morris Plains, welcomed its new spiritual leader, Cantor Bruce Ruben, during a family Shabbat service on July 7. At the service, Cantor Ruben celebrated congregants’ birthdays and anniversaries and included many religious school students. A special oneg Shabbat celebrated his joining the Beth Am family.

Cantor Ruben was honored for his distinguished leadership of the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music, where he was director from 2006 to 2015. He holds a Ph.D. in
Jewish history and has taught classes in antisemitism and Holocaust history at Hunter College since the 1990s.
