New program for Union County Jewish teens

New program for Union County Jewish teens

Temple Emanu-El of Westfield; Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael and Temple Sha’arey Shalom, both in in Springfield, Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim in Cranford, Temple Sholom in Scotch Plains; and Temple Beth O’r Beth Torah in Clark are partnering to open the Union County HaMakom (the place) for all Jewish teens in 8th to 12th grade. The program, emphasizing joyous and engaged learning, is funded by the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest. Its goal is for teens to learn about Jewish topics that are meaningful and engaging to them by sharing in worship, education, social action, and cultural activities.

Teens can pick classes including Jews in comedy, which will look at what makes Jewish humor Jewish; Stars of David — Jews on Broadway; Israeli history — its growth and changes; American history through Jewish eyes; Women world changers; and the history of Reform Judaism.

Students’ families must be members of one of the participating congregations. For more information, go to
