New tefillin for Union County sheriff’s officer

More than 20 years ago, when a group of officers in Hillside completed their training, Danny Kahane, z”l, donated bulletproof vests to each of them. One of them was Officer Donald Wilkenfeld.

Officer Wilkenfeld’s son, Daniel, a member of the Union County Sheriff’s office, began wearing tefillin every day after seeing the menorah-lighting ceremony at his office last year.

Coming full circle, Danny Kahane’s son, Jason, bought a new pair of tefillin from Israel in memory of his father, and gave them to Daniel Wilkenfeld. Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky said that Danny provided physical protection to officers 20 years ago. Now his son provided a Union County sheriff’s officer with the ultimate spiritual protection.
