Norman J. Freund
Norman J. Freund, 83, of Green Brook died Feb. 23, 2011. He was born in Newark.
Mr. Freund served as president of Automotive Safety Inc., Elizabeth, growing it successfully to include branches in Westville; Albany, NY; and Plainview, NY, until his retirement in 1993.
He was a graduate of West Side High School in Newark and Purdue University, where he earned a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.
He served as past president of the National Wheel and Rim Association. He was past president of Automotive Services Industry Association and served on the board of directors of the New Jersey Motor Truck Association. He also served on the board of directors of the Council of Fleet Specialists and was a founding member of Heavy Duty America.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
He was a longtime member of Temple Emanu-El in Westfield.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (Harkavy); his son, Scott of Chatham; two daughters, Debra Freund Schranck of Mountainside and Cynthia Freund of Martinsville; and three granddaughters.
Services were held Feb. 27 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Westfield Hadassah.
