Phyllis Strumpf
Phyllis Strumpf (Batist), 76, of Monroe Township died Nov. 30, 2014. Born in Montreal, she and her husband lived in Mount Vernon, NY, and in Milford, Conn., for over 50 years before relocating to Monroe four years ago. She also had lived in North Carolina during her husband Manny’s two-year tour of duty with the U.S. Army.
Prior to retiring in 2000, Mrs. Strumpf was an administrative associate in the Endocrinology Department of Yale University School of Medicine, where she worked for over 20 years.
She graduated with high honors from Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, Conn.
A member of Congregation Beit Shalom, Monroe, she was a former longtime member of Congregation Or Shalom, Orange, Conn. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of its Alisa and Monroe Township chapters, and a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America. She coedited the bulletin for Monroe Township chapter. She was honored by both Hadassah and the sisterhood of Congregation Or Shalom for her fund-raising efforts.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years; her daughter, Lori (Ron) Dritz of Poughkeepsie, NY; her son, Jeff of Springfield; two brothers, Philip and Lionel Batist; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 2 with arrangements by Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beit Shalom, Monroe; Congregation Or Shalom, 205 Old Grassy Hill Rd., Orange, CT 06477; American Cancer Society, North Brunswick, or any charity supporting Israel.
