Rabbi Meyer Korbman
Rabbi Meyer Korbman of Lakewood, the longtime rabbi of Temple Israel of Union, died March 18, 2016.
Rabbi Korbman began his career at the age of 26 as a rabbi at Congregation Beth El in Hightstown, where he remained until 1970. In 1970, he accepted the position of rabbi at Temple Israel of Union, where he remained for 39 years. He retired after the temple merged with Temple Beth Ahm in Springfield in 2008 to become Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Penn); two sons, Moshe of Elizabeth and Rabbi David Korbman, dean of Yeshiva of South Lakewood; his daughter, Riva (Gibber) of Chicago; two brothers, Cantor Jack Korbman, who retired last year as cantor of Adath Shalom Congregation in Parsippany, and Harry Korbman; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Approximately 1,000 people attended funeral services held March 18 at Yeshiva of South Lakewood. Memorial contributions may be made to Yeshiva of South Lakewood/Rabbi Meyer Korbman Memorial Fund, 114 Carey St., Lakewood, NJ 08701.
