Robert Lieberman

Robert Lieberman, 92, of West Orange and Boynton Beach, Fla., died Jan. 25, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Red Bank, Asbury Park, and Irvington before moving to West Orange 54 years ago.

Mr. Lieberman was a chemist for Signal Corps Engineering Laboratories, Eatontown, working in the synthesis of crystals for communication applications. He then was a member for 28 years of the technical staff at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, working in the silicon device area.

He received a BA in chemistry in 1942 from Brooklyn College and did graduate work at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and Rutgers University.

He served in World War II as a tech sergeant in the 8th and 9th Air Force in England, France, and Belgium, earning three service stars.

He was a 50-year member of B’nai Shalom, West Orange, serving as a treasurer. He was a volunteer eye disabilities screener at Prevent Blindness of New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvette (Reich); two daughters, Andrea (Edward) Berger and Lori (Paul) Laporte; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 29 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
