Robert Rubenstein

Robert Ira Rubenstein, 92, of Boca Raton, Fla., died Feb. 27, 2016. Born in Jersey City, he also lived in North Bergen, West Orange, South Orange, and Long Branch before moving to Boca Raton three years ago.

Mr. Rubenstein, along with his two brothers Melvin and Stanley, joined Realty Appraisal Co., which was founded by his father Joseph, shortly after graduating from Cornell University in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. As a partner, he became a leader in the field of mass appraisal. He held the Appraisal Institute MAI designation, which was awarded to him in 1957, and was president of the Metro New Jersey chapter in 1972. He was also a state-certified general appraiser and a certified tax assessor. He retired in 2006.

A staff sergeant in the 342nd Infantry Regiment Cannon Company during World War II, he served as a member of Omar Bradley’s 12th Army Group. He fought in France and Germany during 1944-45, winding up at Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest in Berchtesgaden. He was en route to take part in the planned invasion of Japan when the war ended. He spent almost a year in Manila.

He was a member of Temple B’nai Abraham in Newark and Temple Israel, South Orange

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois (Denburg); two sons, Steven of New York City and Neil of Berkeley Heights; and six grandchildren.

Services were held March 1 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
