Robert Schachtel
Robert I. Schachtel of Morris Township, formerly of Maplewood and Livingston, died Oct. 31, 2015.
Mr. Schachtel was the owner and proprietor of Muriel’s department store in Orange for the past 50 years. Before that, he was an executive with Schachtel Bakery in Newark, which was his family’s business.
He was a former board member and membership chair of Mountain Ridge Country Club and a member of the New Jersey Senior Golf Association. He organized outings at golf courses around the country.
He is survived by his wife, Lana; two sons, Jamie (Debbi) and Blair (Amy); a brother, Norman; a sister, Hortense Sarot; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 1 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to the NICU at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, in honor of his great-niece, Jordyn Heyderman.
