Ruth Epstein

Ruth Epstein, 94, of Perry, Ga., died May 2, 2020. She was born in New York City and grew up in Brooklyn, moving to West Orange after her marriage in 1946. Upon retirement, she and her husband Irving relocated to Tamarac, Fla., and later to Lauderhill, Fla.

She attended Brooklyn Technical School for Home Economics and Sewing.

Mrs. Epstein taught cooking and sewing at the YM-YWHA (now the JCC MetroWest) in West Orange. She began learning yoga in the 1970s and eventually became a certified yoga instructor. In Florida, she taught yoga at the Tamarac Community Center and interspersed her lessons with instructions on healthy eating and nutrition. Her last lessons in senior chair yoga capped her 40-year career of yoga instruction.

Predeceased by her husband in 2013, she is survived by three sons, Edward (Joann) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Allan (Randi) of Succasunna, and Robert of Perry; her daughter, Sandra (Russ) Andersson of Phoenixville, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held May 14 at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish National Fund.
