S. Charles Tabak
S. Charles Tabak, 85, of Verona and Boca Raton, Fla., died Aug. 1, 2017. He grew up in Brooklyn and lived in Bellmore, N.Y., before moving to Livingston in 1969.
Mr. Tabak had more than 50 years of business experience in varying positions. From 1957 to 1959 he was a senior staff auditor for Ernst and Ernst, a big eight worldwide accounting firm. He was admitted to practice in the state of New York and the U.S. Supreme Court. From 1959 to 1964 he served as assistant in-house counsel for Bloomingdale’s and from 1964 to 1969 served as director of finance for JJ Newberry’s, which owned and operated over 1,000 retail stores and restaurants. From 1969 to 1990 he served as a principal and executive vice president and general counsel to Channel Home Centers, a multi-state retailer of home improvement products. He served as chief executive officer of Arc Medical and Professional Personnel from 1991 to 2004.
He received a B.S. in accounting as well as a J.D. degree from New York University.
He served in the military from 1954 to 1956.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years; Tanya (Hodes); two daughters, Elissa (Frank) Lombardo and Karen (Steven) Honig; a sister, Helen Galvin; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 4 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Foundation for Diabetes Research, Livingston.
