After months spent watching programs on Zoom, on May 7 110 seniors from the JCC of MetroWest and Bnai Shalom’s Hazak group and local clients of Homewatch CareGivers were entertained at an outdoor concert celebrating Yom Yerushalayim. The singing duo Voce Nova — classically trained singers Gilad Paz and Natalia Tsvi — performed crowd favorites from a Jewish/Israeli repertoire, the Broadway stage, opera hits, and more, under a tent in the parking lot of Bnai Shalom in West Orange. Masking, social distancing, and New Jersey state covid protocols were followed. The concert was co-sponsored by Bnai Shalom Hazak, the Goldstein Center for Israel and the diaspora, the Hirschhorn Foundation, and Homewatch CareGivers of South Orange.

Participant Natalie James of West Orange said, “The concert was amazing. I had the feeling like things were getting back to normal, sitting there and listening to a live concert and not zooming from home. It was great.” Adele Kleiman of West Caldwell added, “The afternoon was a beautiful celebration performed by amazing talent. The audience loved it and I hope we can experience this again soon.” The sponsors are working on collaborations and future programming.
