Seymour Margulies

Seymour Margulies, 86, of Springfield died April 5, 2013. He was born and raised in Jersey City and Somerville and lived in Springfield for nearly 60 years.

After studying law at Rutgers University, Mr. Margulies established a decades-long professional collaboration with Maurice C. Brigadier. Together, they offered the Brigadier-Margulies Bar Review course and trained an entire generation of NJ legal practitioners and judges. He then created his own law firm (Levy, Lemken, and Margulies), which continues today under the leadership of his protégée Robert Margulies (Margulies Wind). At the age of 60, he was appointed to be a judge of the state Superior Court, where he served for 18 years. He remained active as an emeritus and mediator until recently.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean (Canter); his son, David (Else Smedemark) of Massachusetts; two daughters, Andrea Margulies of Massachusetts and Judith (Marty) Knopf; a sister, Lillian Meizlik of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Lee of Teaneck; and six grandchildren.

Services were held April 7 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
