Sheldon Schoen
Sheldon Schoen, 85, of Fairfield died March 24, 2015. He was born in Newark.
Dr. Schoen practiced for 50 years as a clinical urologist. He was a member of the first successful kidney transplant team in New Jersey, was a past president of the medical staff of Irvington General Hospital, and chief of the Urology Section, Department of Surgery, at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
He served as a senior medical officer and lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, later serving medical residencies at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore and Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Roberta; his daughter, Wendy; three sons, Scott, Ken, and Bruce; a sister, Barbara Bromberg; and six grandchildren.
Services were held March 27 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders.
