Shirley Bader

Shirley H. Bader, 88, of South Orange died Nov. 24, 2011. She previously lived in Long Branch and North Bergen.

Mrs. Bader was a former adjunct professor of statistics and operations research at Monmouth University. She was also a mathematician in the Quality Control department of AT&T Bell Laboratories.

A graduate of Brooklyn College, she received a master’s degree from Monmouth University in computer science at the age of 60.

An ardent Zionist, she belonged to the youth movement Hashomer Hatzair. She was a past president of the Yeshiva of Hudson County and Long Branch Hadassah. She also was a speaker for the North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry, and wrote and directed plays about Israel and Judaism. Recently, she resurrected one of her scripts about former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir and, with her neighbors at Village Apartments, presented the play for residents and Maplewood Hadassah members. She learned to play bridge at age 87.

Predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Irving, in 1995, she is survived by her daughter, Lonye Rasch of Short Hills; a sister, Estelle Davids of Natick, Mass.; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 27 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
