Shopping downtown
Going to downtown Newark was an adventure (Rosanne Skopp, Exit Ramp, “Stores galore: shopping in Downtown Newark,” Jan. 16). On Wednesdays the stores were open later, so we didn’t have to hurry and finish by 5 p.m. Going back home on the 14 Clinton bus was often standing-room only.
The malls that replaced downtown fail in comparison. There was the pretzel man who sold the salty pretzels from a basket; probably this is what increased my resistance to disease as none of the vendors looked too clean.
